With Memorial Day quickly approaching on May 25th, 2020, and the times that we live in being vastly different now than they were even a few months ago, it's time to start improvising and coming up with create ways to keep the celebrations going - at a safe distance, of course.
Just because we can't gather in groups greater than a few people, or sit closer than six feet, that doesn't mean we have to give up on celebrating our favorite holidays all together! Here are some fun ways to honor this glorious holiday while observing the socially distancing standards that have been set in place:
Have a Backyard BBQ:
In true American spirit, why not host a good old fashion backyard BBQ? With a few modifications, of course.
Set up folding tables and chairs six feet away from one another but with enough chairs at each one for those who have been in quarantine together to sit together.
Arrange all the food on one central table with ice chests filled with beverages, turn on your favorite "get down" playlist, and shimmy your way through the day. Take turns hitting up the food and drinks table so that you can all eat, drink, and be merry together - except also apart.
Host a Zoom, FaceTime, or FB Live Event:
Gather up a group of friends and schedule a virtual hang! Come up with a jazzy theme, like maybe 90s boy bands, fairytale characters, or master chef and celebrate with a themed activity via your devices.
A master chef theme could include a virtual cook off, give points for presentation and creativity. A 90s boy band theme might mean choreographing a dance together. Or, if themes aren't your thing, have everyone pour a virtual glass of wine, pop on some screen-shared Bob Ross, and whip up some colorful happy little trees.
Coordinate a Car Parade:
Decorate your cars, load up your kids and pets, gather up some pals and caravan around together. Pre-make a special playlist on Spotify and have everyone listen to it at the same time, so it's like you're all rocking out together.
Make some poster boards with fun messages if you feel so inclined and spread your Memorial Day cheer around the neighboring houses by honking and singing and sharing the love.
